Hi everyone. New here and to the car. Bought a 93, 5 speed, 215,xxx miles for 900 bucks as a work/run around car to curb the price of filling up my Jeep. Must admit I felt slightly goofy driving my "new to me" little smurf car 2.5 hours down the interstate and so forth... But almost a month later, I'm not sure I want to drive the Jeep! First thing I did was give it new plugs and an oil change, cleaned the inside and painted the bumpers, etc to at least make it look decent. Can you guys steer me in the right direction as far as what plugs get YOU the most mileage? I want to keep this little baby running for as long as I can and as efficient as I can, so any tips and suggestions would be great! By the way, I see why there is a forum dedicated to these cars now lol... What started out as an embarrassing drive turned into not wanting to get out of it! Bill

Welcome to the forums.
Personally, I haven't done an extensive caparison between spark plugs, but I remember reading on a different site that NGK V Power plugs gave the best performance for fuel mileage. So that's what I run.
There are probably others that have more experience in this area so don't hold on to what I've done as the ultimate answer.

Welcome! Where in IL are you?
NGK V-Powers for me too. Don't forget new plug wires; I like the NGK ones because blue. Since you will save big on labor by doing things yourself, don't go cheap on parts.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

I also run Standard Motor Products rotor and cap. The cap has brass terminals.

Welcome to the neighborhood! I'm a die hard NGK advocate. Can't go wrong with a set of V-powers. The Festiva is a a blast to drive stock, but it really starts to shine with some modifications. It looks like you've scored a really nice driver, in a great color. Feel free to ask any questions, most people on here respond to PM's quickly and if they can't answer your question, they'll know someone who can.Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

NGK is the only thing my buddy can keep in the funny car and out of all the not worn out plugs coming through the door missing and shaking like my dog passing peach seeds NGK is not one of the brands causing this. Welcome!!Reflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig

Thanks for the replies. I'm in East Central Illinois, near the Indiana state line. So... I had previously put Bosch Platinum in it and ran it for about a week prior to making my post. Switched to NKG V-Power tonight due to the recommendations on here. After hitting 4 different autozones, I was finally able to find an air filter for it. Mileage seems to be hovering in the upper 30's. That's with idle warm up time, a lot of stop and go and cold weather that has moved in. Rigged up some cardboard to partially cover the radiator as well after reading some posts on here. Overall, I'm pleased with the car. Have had it a little over a month and put almost 900+ miles on it without any issues. (keep in mind I have been making up reasons to drive it) Nice to see there is an excellent forum online for the car. Many helpful posts on here! Just hope the little smurf continues running as it does!

Welcome. Glad to hear you painted the bumpers- an easy and cheap thing to do that really improves the look and I think protects the bumper just a bit. If you have any problems, You may want to start checking the fusible link panel under the hood on the drivers side- bad connections and fried wires are a common source of problems. The heaters aren't that great because the little motor runs so cool. I too baffled the radiator in Indiana, and when I had the car in California where I bought i]t (Sunset Ford, Westminister), it never overheated and rarely left the same low op temperature, even out on the desert in Needles. I like hefty Champion plugs, very hard to get now, and I ordered some on e-bay last summer for the Aspire and they sent some tiny things from asia. Yours looks in good shape, you probably won't be sorry for having it![ATTACH=CONFIG]16917[/ATTACHLast edited by harpon; 01-07-2015, 01:46 AM.
