Diesel Tempo

Well I just got an interesting call from a neighbor. Seems he is done driving his diesel Tempo and wanted to know if I'm interested in it.

The car is a '92 with an '84 Escort 2.0 diesel engine swap.

I remember when he did this project a few years ago. He pulled the engine and trans from a rust bucket 'scort, then the engine/trans from the Tempo. Did some eyeballing and measuring and bolted the oil burner right into place. No muss, no fuss. Used the same CV axles as the gasser engine/trans in the Tempo.

He also has a spare '87 diesel engine and possibly a spare head.

Just need to negotiate compensation and make a little room.

That's pretty damn cool.
I was looking for a Lincoln with a diesel to put in my 49 Ford F2 truck. But they are pretty hard to find.
I helped a buddy take a diesel out of a Mazda B2000 and stick in in an older (79 if I remember right) mail jeep. Scary how well things were lining up. He even left it right hand drive.

Makes sense. The Tempo was heavily based on the '81 to '90 Escort platform. If I'm not mistaken you could get the same 2.0 Mazda Diesel in the Tempo in the mid '80s as well. I hope you can pick it up. It will probably give the Festiva a run for its money in terms of fuel economy.
