  • Holy crap...

Put new tires and rear wheel bearings in the little guy and holy crap. I thought the road noise was merely the small tires but I was wrong and threw some new bearings in the rear... I can hear my thoughts again! 8k miles and a few months into having this car... I can say my jeep hasn't had 200 miles put on it since! I think I like it!

I just replaced (including balancing) the 2008- and 2009-manufactured front tires on one of my daily driver Festies. All of the 55mph-and-up shimmy problems instantly went away. I can now do 80mph with zero shimmy. I had been figuring I'd be replacing ball joints, tie rod ends, and who knows what else, when it turned out to be nothing but square tires.

The 12 inch Kelly/Douglas tires that were on mine when I bought it in 2012 were made in 2000 D: I can't believe I was driving on those, granted they had allot of tread left and no dry rot, hell one tire still had the little rubber hair things. Yet the Bridgestones on my Monte dry rotted to hell in less than 5 years.

^Seen some on a Neon the other day that had full circumferential splits in the tread just as they were pretty well worn out. Don't know how long they'd been like that, but they weren't even close to 5 years old.

          Scary.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Mine has 175 70 13's on it. I had a mid range tire put on all four then went home and did the rear bearings. It went from driving me nearly insane, having the radio cranked up to 40 and screaming into the phone to pleasant. But on that note, brake line blew out 6 hours after doing this lol... Also had my best mileage yet to date with it since owning it. 47.3. I believe all notions of getting rid of it went out the door. 222,xxx miles and running like a sewing machine. I see why you guys love these little things so much... Haha
