  • Fuel Injection to Carb swap?

Hello again Festiva nation, got a question about a carb swap. How difficult would it be to convert my EFI to carb? I have the carb manifold but need a carb, fuel pressure regulator, distributor etc. I just want to get away from this EFI setup, too complicated. Anyone ever perform this surgery on their Festa's? Thanks, Greg.

? EFI is pretty reliable. And self-adjusts for altitude, unlike say a Weber carb (I do like Webers tho). I believe you also have to change out the gas tank and fuel pump as well. If you want to go to a simple Weber carb setup, I suggest you sell your EFI car when you find a nice carby one. Also, EFI distys seem to be more reliable and plentiful.

Anything is doable, but I hardly see this as an improvement.

Bravekozak did it. IF you don't use a stock carb, then I could see it as a lesser complication. But you HAVE to NOT use the stock carb. The stock carb setup is right up there with little girls and foozball.

Find an Escort 1.6 carb, and use a bypass fuel pressure regulator. If I didn't want a turbo I'd want a carb.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

What if the Indiana car was only driven on sunny days in the summer, and garaged its whole life?

                EFI

Yes, I think its too complicated! I had a problem with severe surging.I changed the MAF sensor, injectors, fuel pump, Idle position sensor, O2 sensor, coolant temperature sensor, distributor, coil and now it won't idle and dies under 1200 RPM. I'm tired of spending good money after bad and these are the results I'm getting? The hell with that, just give me old reliable carburetion, no computer, just tune with a screwdriver!

I think your confusing real carburetors with what the festiva had. It was nightmare computer controlled carb without adjustments like an old school carb. You will want a weber or an old escort carb but I believe both of those require adapters to bolt to the carb manifold.

Thanks Tom, I would really rather have the carb setup. I just think its less BS to put up with a carb. I too think the Weber carb would be the right carb for this application. I was looking at the linkage and it looks like it would convert right over to the carb. The biggest challenge would be to step the fuel pressure down to the 3lbs required by the Weber, also, the distributor would have to be changed to an earlier model or so I think. What are your thoughts? Greg.

I had a Weber 32/36. I switched to an '82 Escort carb. Rocketman has adapters for both. I get 40 MPG with the escort carb with a B6. I may be crazy, but I think my car runs smoother and is faster with the Escort carb. Less than half the price too. No one is ever satisfied. I would like an EFI car! More choice of engine swaps. Carbs are fun and simple though.

Man, is this cool! How did you pull off a twin carb swap? I would be happy with one. Very innovative! Thanks for sharing and I'll probably be asking more questions soon. Thanks, Greg.
