10 ply should wear a long time but how would they handle? the nankangs are 200 a set. these are 240 . so worth the extra $40 or not?

Yep they are. Possibly dangerous, definitely expensive for a 12-inch tire. Altho they are radials, so maybe not dangerous. Why not just upgrade to Metro 13" rims? Keep one good 12" as a real spare tire. With luck, you can get four rims w/good tires already mounted and balanced at the JY for $80. I'm thinking, with them being 10 ply, they would be very stiff and not ride or handle good.Jerry

Just a thought. If you're pulling a trailer doing 80mph aren't the trailer tires during 80mph? So, what's the difference?Chuck

I nearly tried this on my Focus. I would say do it and see how it feels.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

I could not imagine the ride quality. I have to run 10 ply on my diesel truck. They not bad on that but I'm also at around 9000 pounds. Put them on a festy wow. Also have to remember it take a good air compressor to get 80 pounds into a tire. $240 is too much to "experiment" on but I know you get a lot of life out of ply tires.
discount tire here wants $45 a tire + $16 per to install.

I ordered nice winter tires once. Waited 4 months for them. Finally came in so i went to pick them up and they were 10ply trailer tires. (For the 12in rims)
Im not very heavy but i think i could have stood on them and they wouldn't have flattened (with no rims or air obviously). I put most of my weight on them with my hands and they didn't budge.
I returned them because i didnt think they would be safe or comfortable. They will bounce you off the road. My dad has a 95 f-350 with 10ply tiers which is what the truck is supposed to have and if he hits bad washboard empty going fast with the tires at 80psi the truck tries to bounce right off the road.

145 s roll very well, but wear out the tread relatively quickly, so the ply isn't of that importance. I used to get them for $15 apiece back in the late 90's because the tire stores would use them at the top of a list of tires and prices in great big letters and numbers to advertise.
I just bought another festiva last fall, with great rubber on the back and marginal on the front. I got two tires on ebay- 12 x155 fairly cheap and delivered- they're still in the back of the car as I tinker and sort the car and it's unregistered. I think I paid $84 for two delivered.
I wish I had gotten some metro wheels, or I think there are some Toyota 13's, even if steelies, maybe even just the front two, because I always sorta felt the 12's were a bit short on the last one (driven from 175K to 275K) and the car would push the a bit in hard cornering.
Some member here had a set down in Orlando but I didn't want to make the drive or spend the money then, but there are some around. Metro rims at Pick a Part or something.
Fancy alloy if you can splurge and the car is worth it otherwise.
On the other hand I'm getting on, and not driving 3000 a year, and probably less as time goes on so the tires will probably last me most of the rest of my life at least if I ever get the car on the road. Meanwhile the 96 Aspire just turned 115,000 and going strong.Last edited by harpon; 08-30-2015, 06:33 AM.

I like the 12s better than the 13s . the car pulls hills better w/o having to downshift and it gets
between 4 and 6 mpg s better milage , easier to steer . I drove it for 2 years with 13s and
didn't like them at all. plus they made the car more sluggish. lost its go cart feel. imo had the toyo steelies.admit nothing - deny everything - make accusations
