That undercoating kept water out until it got in and then held it in and let the rust spread. Oil spray is a better idea and you can get into the inside where rust starts. The outside is exposed to the air and can dry out. Keep the drain holes like the ones along the bottom of the door clear. Good luck with the restoration work.

You got a little further than when i was out to your place.I think you have pulled the steering wheel and dash since.I think i you need some of my spare nuts and bolts i have saved over the years just in case lol.
