  • Festiva engine difference question?

    Hello, my name is Johnathan.
I just bought a 1988 Festiva. I'm looking into doing a timing belt job for my car. I found a good deal on a timing belt kit but it says its for a 90-93 Festiva. Would I not be able to use this kit?
Thank you for all your help in advance. Pictures will follow soon.

That's a good question. I would think that they should all be the same 88-93, but looking at part numbers for 80s models and 90s models, some kits are compatible with all years, and some are different. Like the Gates part # for the 90-93 is TCK185, and the 88-89 lists TCK141. But look completely identical.
1991 Ford Festiva BP (Full Aspire/Rio Swap) (337k Miles) (Around 95k Engine)
2002 Chevy Cavalier LS Sport 2.2L DOHC Ecotec (Threw a Rod)
    1998 Chevy Monte Carlo LS 3.1 V6 (225k miles) Best MPG = 28

That's what I'm finding too. I found the TCK185 kit on sale. I just don't know if there is a difference.

Here is what I've found so far. The timing belt TCK141 for 88-89 is .86 inches wide or 21mm. The timing belt TCK185 is .87 inches wide 0r 22mm. Both are the same length and have the same number of teeth. I'm going to try out the TCK185 on my 88 Festiva. The deal is too good to pass up on a Timing belt kit.
