  • Can someone help me with this...

So I need new tie rods for my '89 ford festiva, I ordered new ones from rockauto, AC DELCO & they didn't seem to fit on my car due to the thread. Picture is down below, the one on the left is new and the one on the right is the one I have on now currently. I really need to change my inner rods, help anyone?

Looks like you got the wrong part. There were two different steering racks used on festivas. Which used different inner tie rods.

You need to determine if your steering rack has a steel or alum. housing. And order the correct rods.

I just looked at rock auto. Even for the '88 they're showing the same inner end.

The new 89 tie rod is for a manual trans car.

The old tie rod is for 90 to 93 festivas. And 89 festivas with auto trans.

How much do you want to bet her car is a auto?

^ Yep either that or the rack was swapped.
            Fine thread = 88-89 and corse =90-93.
But I didn't know the 89 auto was like the 90-93 good to know!

Not 100% sure about that. Will have to check my 89 auto. To be sure.

In a lot of cases 89 manuals are like 88's. 89 autos are like 90 to 93's.

stating that I'll have to go with a 90-93 tie rod?

Yes any parts story will carry the 90-93 the 88- 89 are harder to come by I always get then from rock auto.

Well I got the above from rockauto as well, but the thread is different which is why I'm confused on what year. Mechanic says that the rack hasn't been changed either.

If it's a aluminum rack it should have the 90-93 rods if it's steel it's 88-89
