I was just about to post a Junkyard Gripe post too!

I went to the local GoPullIt to pull some seats, I ended up pulling 2 Escort Seats and the dome light assembly until I found a 96 Protege with better seats so I pulled those. Walk up to the counter and tell the guy what I got... 2 whole seats and a dome light. A couple of seconds go by and he proceeds to tell me my total... $97!!!

I say the online page says $25 a seat... how does that add up?

    $25 per seat
$5 per seat core charge ( Bullshit Charge just so they can charge you more money because they know I'm not going to waste my time to bring you an old seat back for $5!)
    $10 per seat track
    $15 per dome light

So I ended up leaving with 1 seat without the rusty seat track that I didn't need and the dome light.

Does anyone else Junkyards seam to be Raping people? I will not be shopping there again!

I was going to pull some brakes from an Aspire once there as well but I looked at the prices online and they would have charged me around $400 for the parts.... I can go buy the whole car for that!

They also recently raised the admission charge at LKQ from $2 to $3 (a 50% increase).
I guess they are trying to make up for the ongoing slump in scrap metal prices.

The two LKQ's around here are pretty steep on prices too, and no Festivas or Aspires in stock in the past year. I did find a set of 15x7 and 15x8 Porsche Fuchs wheels plus the spare for $240 bucks though.

Core charges at pick-n-pull drive me crazy. I always thought a true core was something to be rebuilt later by remanufacturing business (alternator, starters, calipers, etc..). Some of the items they charge cores for seems like robbery. Class action suit anyone?
Or do they consider a core anything that can be thrown in their scrap metal pile?
But I like the hunt and pulling my own parts, and not alot of yards let you do that anymore. So I just keep feeding the snake.

                    for what it's worth:
they never charge me when I say/show that I got some fuses, door lock pull knobs, and usually if I'm there buying something and I make friendly conversation about what's the cost of ... or next time I have to get.... then she waves me on only charging for the main thing.

I have one of these clear door cubby holder tool organizer jobbies that's 5 drawers wide and five drawers tall. I sort the pocket of pulled fuses n such then (somehow) make an extra $10-20 (luckily) by sitting them out if I do a yard sale each spring/fall. I don't know why but people buy the heck out of fuses.
get the little ones, big ones under the hood, different amps, etc. - people buy the heck out of misc fuses at a yard sale in my opinion.

otherwise, make idle conversation asking about the price of something else you saw and will need to come back for or keep pieces together like the seat and rails and maybe the lady wont be nit-picky... ???? best of luck though

I understand that the counter people have rules to go by and have to enforce them if they value their job. And just like any other service type job, you will come across nice efficient people, nice lazy people, sour efficient people and sour lazy people.
And sometimes it just depends on how their day is going. It seems that the larger the operation they are the less flexible they are.
In my dealing with the local LKQ, it does seem that in general they don't worry much about the small stuff like you are talking about. I've had the same experience as you.
LKQ sure is treating their stock holders right, check their stock chart for the last couple of years. The just bought Pittsburgh Glass Works earlier this year. Not into just junk yards..they are a multinational corporation with automotive related operations all over the world.
