I was thinking about eventually fabricating some backing plates from sheet metal and welding on a collar to attach a 2 or 3 inch flexible duct to a scoop on each side of the bumper cover, so that the discs would have 'forced air' cooling from the back into the centers of them.

One person says the Rio backing plates will fit the aspire knuckles, another says they won't. So do they or do they not?

don't know why they think they won't fit. the plates i pictured are for the Kia Avella. same car as the Aspire. here is picture proof they do fit. the knuckle is from an Aspire. if you order from 4GREEN, use the numbers shown on the bag. FYI, the inside diam. of the Avella/Aspire plates is 3.377"

I thought I needed to replace bearings last Fall but the noise turned out to be the brakes-

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I started thinking researching the repair that as far as my understanding is- the hard part about the bearings is pressing the races into the spindle-

so - it seems a needle bearing replacement would be wise anytime the bearings are otherwise exposed- and if the races aren't scoured- all the better!

If the CVs or tranny or tie/ ball joints lower control arms are off- the bearings are cheap otherwise- probably a good idea to but new bearings then anyway if the races aren't scoured- what's the difference- they won't then scour that much longer.....

Harp, this really isnt the thread for this. But like I encouraged you once before, find a reputable wrench in your area. Make sure they know these knuckles with the shims. This isnt a task that I would recommend you tackle ( no offense). But to lightly touch on your thoughts- You never ever want to replace the bearing without replacing the race. And getting the races out really isnt difficult. I have read on this thread of mechanics actually loosing the members shims because they didnt realize they where there. So make sure that whomever does the job understands the job. Peace-

Harpon, you can't reuse races as they are matched to the bearing and take a set to that particular bearing. Also, manufacturer specs will vary and if you start mixing and matching, you're guaranteed a failure.
