  • Battery...

What type of battery do you folks recommend? I know its like what kind of spark plugs but am in need of a battery and just curious as to what kind most of you buy? Thanks

I bought an Interstate, just because it was on the rack of an auto parts store and I recognized the festiva battery code.

Make sure the battery posts are on the proper side, as well as the proper place of the battery.
The battery cables don't stretch very far.

Walmart just started selling a $48 battery, 560cca? Just put one in Nancy. Cheap and effective.

I still prefer the Duralast Gold that came in the carby when I bought it, though. It's a 6 year old battery and is still like brand-new. Problem is it's a $130 battery, so no way it'll be replaced with the same when it finally does fail.

^^ This. Since you are in Michigan, I would not recommend a lawnmower/powersports battery, becuz winter. I find that a good-quality thinner battery designed for Hondas does just fine; sufficient CCA to get it turned over. The powersports not so much below 20 degrees F. The Honda-style batteries are a bit lighter because thinner, and free up a little room in the engine bay.

I also recommend 0W-20 or 0W-30 oil for winter, to help the battery crank; but you probably already know that.

I've run these for ~5 years in 3 different festivas (two SOHC B6 one BP). Of course our winters in VA aren't as cold as yours. Still even in the teens I've never had a cranking problem.

I think I'll get the walmart one for $48. There is a 650 cca for the same price. Thanks

I use other peoples used batteries, lol. Lots of trouble with that but i can push start it by myself. I prefer big batteries. With Some batteries the headlights would actually dim when i used my air horn. Bigger batteries let me boost bigger machinery. I usually pick the biggest one that fits thats in the pile. I once tried to boost a 100% dead swather, had my brother rev my festiva to 5000rpm and when i hit the starter on the swather my festiva almost died, lol. Usually if its a big vehicle or colder i just have to leave the cables connected for a while and then theyl start, that swather and a big diesel truck in -42c were the only 2 i haven't been able to boost. 3 years ago someone totalled my civic and i took its good battery for the festiva. 400cca or so. It starts in -40 but nothing like a 700cca one does. Best thing i did for cold starts was buy a $25 stick on oil pan heater. 100watts or so. Plug it in with the block heater and the car starts and idles perfect like its +20c out when its actually -35c. Best thing ever.
The festivas take next to nothing to start, find whatever is cheap.
