  • What fuel economy do you other BP swappers get?

So what does everyone else's BP swaps get fuel economy wise?

I was getting 38 on Highway trips.
Then they switched to winter gas on me on that same trip and my fuel economy dropped to 30.

Now driving it around town, and temperatures starting get lower I seem to be aiming for mid to high 20s (OUCH!)
That is with quite spirited driving though, tends to be the norm with a nice higher performance engine over stock.

That seams like a huge drop for "winter" gas my b6d car on stock trans got 38 on my commute to work in the wamer months . And 36 in the winter I blamed the cold more than the fuel thank about it everything is thicker in the cold and I was also running gear lube in the trans.
I would run a few more tanks out and see what happens. When my mpgs would drop even 1 or 2 I knew something was worng either a wheel bearing or dragging break on the rear was usly the problem. Maka sure everything is ok. Oh and a grill block helps wondes . Like more then you could imagine sometimes.

I get 22mpg usually I don't know my regulator is ran straight to the manifold the pcr solenoid broke could that be the issue? I would love to have my economy back up also I don't usually go over 3200 rpm or past 1/4 throttle

same here, my regulator is also hooked straight into intake manifold since my solenoid broke too. lol

I'm also on the stock trans, vics always open, and 165-70-13 tires

almost forgot to mention I'm running open manifold until I get the money to do my exhaust properly.

That shouldn't affect your MPG. It's basically a startup helper to help avoid vapor lock or running lean under a hot restart. It closes under certain conditions (during cranking or at idle when the IAT is too high) so that you have max available fuel pressure. Stock the festy doesn't use one and it's fine.

This is a better explanation. https://mazda626.net/topic/41670-mee...lator-control/

ah. cool. nice to know what it was for exactly. I thought it was just a rudimentary computer controlled pressure relief valve.

Well that's disappointing to be honest I can't find my fault in mpg then engine doesn't run rich atleast the 02 said .3v had decent power and didn't require much throttle to drive anywhere

.3v? isn't that lean? on narrow band 450mV (.45v) is stoich, and if you drop much below that it says it's lean, right? Perhaps there's something wrong with your O2, and the ECU thinks it's running lean so it's dumping extra gas in to make up for it.

Mine's probably just running really rich because of running open manifold, so the o2 sensor is like an inch from open air. Had the check engine light come on a few times at low RPMs.

Can you pull BP codes like a factory Festiva can by grounding the STI?

Haynes Manual for the Escort should have them. I just checked one that wasn't sealed in plastic at the Advanced Auto, and it had codes listed for BP Escorts. Should have taken a picture, but there were far fewer codes than what the Festiva manual has listed, and from the looks of it as long as the wiring is the same between the Festiva and the Escort for the STI plug, than we should be able to pull codes through that. I just could have sworn I saw someone on here claim that you couldn't, but I have have misread, or the guy was wrong.
