info please. was parting out my 92 today and noticed the rear spindles where drilled and had a cotter pin to hold the nut and bearings in place . is this after market stuff or ?? :?

If I remember some had the cotter pin and some of the older one's had the other nut .
Some people that did not have the cotter pins ,drilled theirs and used cotter pins , because they had a hard time finding the crushable nuts .------------------------------------------------

IIRC, some were between 91-92 there was a transition to the cotter pin and castellated nut!
You really don't want a crush nut!
How many incidents of a rear wheel falling off have we seen, and I bet none were a properly installed castellated nut and cotter pin setup!

I thought of drilling mine when I had them apart to change drums, bearings etc. Sounds like a better idea than the darned "crush" nuts.1986 Comp Prep SVO Mustang(1 of 83) Four cylinder turbo! (Think first Fox body "R" model!)

I wonder how well 2 normal nuts and a lock washer between them would hold up? You know, hold the bearing adjustment nut steady and torque the other nut against it with like a 4' cheater bar?Comment

i never replaced mine, and i had them on and off a buncha times.... they were all bashed up :?
then i got the aspire swap
all aspire's have cotterpins... much better!
