  • Mfactory LSD Problems

The bolts for my mfactory diff do not fit my ring gear. The bolt has a shoulder on it that is to big or the ring gear hole is to small. I contacted mfactory and they say its the gear (clearly they would). They said mazda had a batch of ring gears that were cut to a different tolerance. So im not sure what im going to do now!

Looking for a stock g-series ring gear i guess.

I can get you one in a bit. The hole in the ring gear is to small. The shoulder on the bolt is .447-.448 the hole is .416-.417

The bolts are left hand hardened shoulder slim head bolts. Gonna be super hard to find others to just buy!

^ Sorry, you can't tamper with the bolt sholder, that will make them too weak. Those bolts are the strongest in the whole car, the shock loading you know.
            Pics would help!
What size are the holes in the carrier?

The hole im the gear is ø0.416"

              Bolt shoulder o.d. is 0.448"

Thread is a left hand metric 1.0 tpi not sure the size. I have not looked yet. I dont think i will be able to fine another another bolt to fit. I really need to drill the gear

Yeah, I'd just ream the ring gear. It's too bad you don't know any good gear shops that might have the tooling to do that Mike.

HAHA right! Its to small for my shop. Its hard for us to go below 20" this gear is even to small for all but the old little bridgeport. Even then i dont know if we have tooling for it. Im about to go search tho.

So we clearly do not have tooling small enough for this gear! Sucks i work in the #1 large gear shop in the country and i cant put a hole in a gear! A local shop called RPM TOOL is going to hook me up. The guy said he will get me in this afternoon! Sweet. If all goes well i will be back up and running this Sunday night/so maybe next weekend ill be close to being done...
