Ignition wiring - kill switch?

I'm currently wiring a capri wiring harness into a Mazda 121.

There is a small switch located in the steering column, just below the ignition barrel. When mounted in place, the small button is pressed in, which completes the circuit.



Anyone know what this switch actually does? Is it a kill switch?

I believe this switch is the key reminder switch.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

According to wiring diagram, key reminder should only have one wire going to it - black with blue stripe.
This switch has two wires - 1 x red, 1 x red with yellow stripe

The switch isn't screwed in, it just clips onto two small lugs. When in place, button is pressed in. The only way for the button to go back out is to remove the switch. There is nothing on it which touches, or could sense a key.

To me, it looks like it might be a safety switch. In a front collision, the switch would probably release from it's position, which will switch off whatever circuit it relates to.

I think mine broke or something. And I can't remember if I just soldered the wires together or taped them off. My car started and ran either way I believe.
