  • eh, hi

finding this site made me go buy my third festiva. jes drove it home, an im already making a build list. car is a ford blue 91 5spd FI with ac an 222000 miles on it that look more like 50k. it really is that clean an i stole it for 300 bucks. once i get a camera ill post some pics, but right now i could use some help with brake upgrades and locating a b6 motor. out where i am is very hilly. i go over a pass at 5000 ft everyday in my work commute an id really like to be able to hold a steady 70 thru it. an be able to stop once im rolling thru the turns on the other side. current plan is to raid fms for as much of the catalog as i can afford, but if anyone knows of bigger brakes they can fit on these flying shoes thad be great
my other festiva is a barely running rust hazard, so ill prolly be parting it out now. located in muskegon, MI it runs an drives, but about the only solid part on it is the hatch. oh, "the skunk" as i call it since its silver with a single white stripe down the middle, is the rust bucket. too far for me to use as a donor, soo if anyone is interested drop me a post
is not sposed ta do that...

the aspire swap would be a good upgrade. Maybe some EBC pads & crossdrilled rotors for a 00-02 kia rio to help it stop better.
It's a good thing you don't read the stickies, you might of learned something.Poverty produces creativity

      Muskegon

      Hey! I'm from Muskegon too. I have two Festivas. I have a 1988 and a 1993.

When you do the Aspire brake swap, use "auto" Aspire rotors and calipers on the front. The rotors are thicker and hold more heat; less likely to warp.

If you carry heavy loads over those mountains, then maybe you would need more. I can't imagine it, though.

Hey congrats on the new purchase man, and welcome! I'm getting ready to move to Dearborn in a month or so, not too terribly far from Muskegon. We should get a Michigan meet together sometime.

Yes, a Michigan meet would be cool. Festiva owners are special people.

                Welcome to the board.

As said already... The Aspire brake upgrade is your best bet. It adds a lot more stopping power and the rear integrated sway bar helps with handling a bit too. You'll either have to source yourself a parts Aspire or source the local junkyards. There is a how-to in the "Wil's Articles" forum down below that gives a pretty good walk through of doing the swap.

A B6 swap is a perfect start. You add about 20hp for limited changes. Again, find yourself a good 323 or source the junkyards. I got my engine for $200 (if I recall correctly) and they came out and loaded it in the back of the car. It was pretty clean, but they had no record of miles. The inside was pretty dry (which eventually lead to a leak, that eventually led to me blowing the engine)... At any rate - Check around and you'll find some for a decent price. The swap is straight forward, it uses the same mounts, tranny, axles, etc. I believe there are only 2 plugs in the Festiva wiring harness that are changed over to the 323, and you have to do some fanageling with the fuel injector harness.... I believe there is a how-to in the NA swap forum (or maybe under Wil's Articles again) about the swap.

                  Aspire Brake Upgrade

                  Hey Simon!

If we do this Aspire brake upgrade, does it take away needing special tools to change the rotors and bearings? I spent about $300 at the dealer just to change two bearings on the driver's side front only! Have you seen the tools needed to take those apart? I am very interested in seeing what they look like and how they work. I could not figure out how it could possibly come apart. I had a couple mechanics look at it and scratch their heads.

                  Later,
                  Marcus
