I am starting this hoping for some fast help/debunking/backwoods tricks, whatever. I am giving away my ford truck in the morning, not selling too cheap, not trading it, blah blah blah. Giving it to someone who needs it,all it needs to do is start and leave, period.I went out to make sure it will drive away and boom, dead battery. It isn't taking a charge on the bench I have placed a light in series with the charger and the battery. Is the light thing a myth in the past I've left a dome light on to help get a battery to start charging but I don't know if that really does anything.I have heard crush an asprin and the salisilc acid will make them start charging, never tried it,I sometimes will smack one with a dead blow to knock off sulfate, again don't know if that really does anything.
What I do know is a decent lawn tractor battery is a cheap, lightweight battery for a 4 cylinder that doesn't have many electrical needs. I've used them for 20+ years in everything from festivas to 16v scirrocos, I also know that I got tired of buying jumper boxes ever 2 years or so and started using the retired lawn tractor batteries from the cars as my jumper box I use the jump box cables attached to the battery with bolts and wing nuts I carry it in a 5 gallon bucket you have a non conductive place to clamp your leads in transport and a handle to carry it,plus you can charge it anywhere you have a 12v charger or clip it to the battery of a running vehicle to charge it
