  • Thank you, Festiva!

Let's talk about this little car...

    So... My story.

I recently got my bachelor's degree in education this past year and got a job about 40 miles away from my house.

When I got my first check, I got my dream car, a garage kept, basically brand new Corvette C4.

Well, I realized after this purchase that a Corvette is not the best car for a daily commute. MPG is an issue at 19-21 MPG, as well as trusting a bunch of students with my car in the parking lot at work.

So I went to craigslist looking for something cheap, a Metro, a Camry, anything.

Well, I came across a 1991 Ford Festiva in Nashville, about an hour south of me. So, I went out and took a look at it.

It was a 91 GL. Pure white with rust spots all over the body that have been covered with white spray paint. There once was a radio, but that was taken out long ago.

There is power steering and AC, but there was not a belt on that accessory line, so it did not work.

Everything on the car ran so well and so smooth. For a car with a broken odometer on 259xxx miles that broke a few years ago, it was amazing. $700 later, and it was mine.

Since that buy in May, this little car has been awesome. I drive 40ish miles to and from work daily and only have to fill the car once every 2 weeks or so. The car is not burning any oil, and the 5-speed transmission is super smooth and fun to play with.

Unlike a lot of small cars today, the hatch is big enough to fit a good load of groceries as well! I can do some work in this car!

And the engine... Man the engine. This car runs so smooth and quietly I need to lean in sometimes at stoplights to make sure the motor is still running

When I have just finished teaching a huge group of middle-grade students, it feels good to relax in a commute home with such a quiet and comfortable car.

Great car. Its a shame that small, cheap cars arent made like this anymore.

Very nice! Festivas are awesome cars. Do you plan to fix the speedo cable?
The hatch size is truly amazing, ive put so much in there over the years...
I cant believe your engine runs that good. I really wish i had one that did
Have you replaced the belt to see if your a/c works? Ac is awesome! I just installed it in my car.
How about a radio? Bluetooth and handsfree calling are so nice to have in a festiva, lol.
And there is nothing made like this anymore. Too bad. I hear the mazda 2 is ok but not sure if they have fixed their rust issues yet and i dont really like the instrument cluster. Drove ok for my test drive though. But never worked on one.
