Shorter headed lug nuts

So I took a gamble on some wheel adapters that are 1in thick, I test fitted some BMW bottle caps that are 4x100 and noticed that the lugs sit past the adapter about a 16th of an in. I still threw the wheels on just did not tighten them down all the way. Love the look of the wheels on the car but they are sticking a good inch outside the whee wells(mostly because the adapter thickness).

My first question is do they make shorter headed bolts, or am I going to ruin the integrity of the bolt grinding it down by no more that .1 inches? I should also mention these are lug centric adapter not hub.if so what is the thread pitch and length to f the originals.

The next question is how much poke is to much? I don't mind the looks and I don't have clearance issues it seems but I don't know if it will have any other negative effects.

I just don't want to dump money into this experiment and not be happy with the results.

Our lug bolts are 12x1.5 thread pitch. I don't think it would hurt the bolts if you take some off the top, just make sure you have enough left to get a socket onto.

What are your plans for the car? If you just want to ride around car shows and malls with a wider stance then you should be fine. If you plan on doing any kind of racing or taking corners at high speeds then you don't want spacers that wide. With a lug centric design it is difficult to get it perfectly center and you are most likely going to have vibrations and I have heard that it puts more wear on your bearings but I don't know if that is true.

I don't think it will hurt the bearing if you are spacing to put the wheel where it belongs (incorrect offset). But if you are pushing them out beyond where they would normally sit, then you are adding a torsional moment to the bearings and they willn't like that.

yeah after really measuring everything it looks like .15in I'd have shave off each lug and I would have about an inch of poke which I'm not thrilled with. If you do an Aspire Brake swap, you can run the Bottle caps as-is without adapters, and you will have bigger brakes.

Yea, someone on here is likely willing to help you find parts. Kia Rio fronts also work and are 4x100.

Keep in mind that Capri brakes are still 114.3

I've run 25mm adapers with the original studs shaved down to clear, and also use 33mm spacers with my track tires/wheels with no problem for the last two years. I am running -3.5ish camber for better grip and to help clear the fenders. Nether spacers/adapter are hubcentric. It's been on three wheels around corners numerous times and I've recored 1.10g cornering, so you'll be fine running them on the street.




My wheels also stuck out about an inch before rolling/pulling the fenders and running camber.
