  • tow bar hitch trailering

So I don't have money for a nice car trailer or tow dolly or a heavy duty truck to pull said trailer. There are multiple options for tow bar hitches for under $100 and I want to know if its worth a try. Every time I find a good deal on a non running or non safe driving vehicle I always get deterred because I cant cost effectively pick them up. Has anyone flat towed a festiva with one of these and if so how did you mount them? I have a 4 cylinder Tacoma (my other baby, 275k with no signs of fatigue) that should be able to tow 3,500lbs; good thing I like tiny econobox's. Any input or warnings would be helpful. Thanks

Your owners manual should have tow ratings. Rule of thumb is tow heavier slower. Tow lighter faster. Buy a class 3 hitch. With 275 k don't do alot of long distance heavy towing. I rent a dolly from uhaul.

HF has what you need provided the shipping points are still attached to the fest. I've towed many a Festy/aspire that way without issue. All that's needed is nylock nuts and a drop ball to keep the hitch somewhat level.

You can pick up a used tow dolly for like $250 or $300. That way if one tire or axle or bearing is bad you can still get it home

thanks for the feedback, I do have a class 3 hitch on the yota and its lowered about 3 in (2wd) so the festy will be perfect height. I do understand the concerns with a tire blowout or similar but I would be avoiding highways for sure and would always bring an extra tire for that type of problem. I'll have to look into the shipping point you speak of as I can't visualize it without being in front of the car.

          cheers

I thought your were asking about towing a festiva with a festiva. I did tha so many times I can't remember, and wouldn't recommend it. Longest single trip was 750 miles.
