  • Tire size ?

Ok y'all i need new tires and i am one that loves to squeeze as much mpg as i can...so i am considering goin a little taller but my question can i fit a 23 inch tire (165/80/13) without rubbing?...stock suspension...all my driving is highway so taller tire wont hurt my drivabality just hopefully bump up my mpg a little thanks for any info y'all can give.

Sure. 155/80-13 works, so 165 will, on stock Metro rims for instance. But if the 165s are significantly more expensive than 155s, you may not get back any savings. The difference in revs per mile is just under 24, according to my tire calculator. You would be traveling only 16 feet per mile more with the 165s, for the same # of revs. Probably unnoticeable in MPG measurements.

Best milage (and wet traction) I ever got was on 145/80-13's set to 40psi.
      Stock suspension, no rubbing.

I would run (and do run) 155/80/13. The narrower tire will have less rolling resistance and less mass to over come when accelerating.

Did u see any increase in mpg when u switched to this size? And what brand do u have?

Looks like 39 dollar difference between 155 and 165 soo what should i do? Decisions, decisions....less rolling resistance or slightly taller tire? Time crunch some numbers...

no did not see any increase. Have always gotten 45 mpg. I could feel the engine has more load with the bigger tires. Less rpms. I just run cheap tires. I do alot of 55 mph driving. 68 miles a day rt to work.

I recently picked up two Aspire wheels and tires from a junkyard; the tires were 175/70R13 (Khumo Senses). Has anyone ruin this size on a Festiva? Any scrubbing?

They will be 22 mm taller than the size that most people run so it shouldn't scrub. The aspire wheels have a 4x100 bolt pattern though so unless you switch to Aspire hubs then they won't work.

Aspire wheels will not fit on a Festiva unless you have a brake swap, just so you know. Aspires are 4x100, Festivas are 4x114.3.

175 is a little wide for a Festiva. 155 is what I would recommend, 155/80-13 are cheap and easy to find.

thanks for the reply. The P.O. did the brake swap, so I've got the 4x100 pattern already. I went top get the roller cam and rockers and noticed the car had like-new tires on the rear (never rotated). I don't have a spare so I jumped on the opportunity.

I actually got the Festiva without knowing about the community, swap projects, etc. I started getting Rick (the car) ready for daily driving and ordered drums, rotors, shoes, pads, seals, and bearings. Parts came, got the car on jackstands, pulled the wheels, held up the rotors and started scratching my head. Finally got the clue when I measured the bolt patterns. It fun paying to ship iron all over the US for no reason at all.

You may rub the rear spring perches with 175s, but they could fit alright. If they are in good shape, it's definitely worth trying!

Just realized that the Aspire had a 41mm offset... they are going to be close to the rear spring perch like w4rky stated. You might get away with it since the aspire hubs stick out a few mm farther than stock but be careful or run longer studs and a 10mm spacer.
