  • Please help !! Need Advice ! '89 festy carb issue

I am the proud owner of three festys I just got my last one a few days ago. the previous owner explained that the carb was not on the eng. but had been rebuilt. I installed the carb using one of my others and a visual guide for all the connections and vacuum lines. when I attempted to start it, It started right up, and ran great, ...wide open I killed the engine with the key and every time I started it after that, same result. so , thinking that this rebuilt carb was assembled incorrectly, I took the carb off of one of my other festys with the same set up. this carb did the same thing as the other! wide open as soon as the key was turned on. What am I missing ?! the second carb ran fine on its original engine.

I would graciously appreciate any advice , comments , or help on this of any kind !!

Make sure that you do not have any vacuum leaks in that spaghetti regretti snakepit.
I had the same issue and decided to solve the problem by changing to a non-feedback carb.
    No more computer control required.

Sure. Search for "Escort carb". Be sure to use the double quotes, so that the phrase stays together.

Try starting it with no cable attached just to be sure the cable isn't holding the throttle open. My next guess would be you are some how applying manifold vacuum to the carb secondaries causing the secondary plate to open at idle, As for an escort carb I can go look at my carb number tomorrow, but I would try to work out the issues with the stock carb. I will be going back to a stock carb soon.I like my escort carb better than the weber and like my injected festy's the most but for fuel economy and daily driving I think the stock carb is the best choice. jmho
