  • Festiva project

Hey guys I have a 1991 red ford festiva that i bought for my senior year project. My task is to show how an engine works by showing the physical insides of an engine, as well as explaining the physics of internal combustion. I have already disassembled and reassembled the engine, taking photos and videos along the way. My issue however is that the transmission was seriously grinding before pulling the engine/tranny. If i am putting everything back into the car i would like a good shifting car. I am open to the idea of a syncro replacement, but i do not have a gear puller, press etc... I have been searching for a used 5-speed transmission and have not had the best of luck, since festivas are rare in the junkyards around me. I am in the san diego area and would drive for a solid tranny just not cross country haha. of course i would also pay for shipping if the price was right. If anybody has a transmission please let me know! I will be installing the timing belt ad fuel rail tonight, so hopefully the car can be back on the road soon, i will upload photos and pictures soon in the build thread.

Welcome. Great project. There is another member fixing his transmission at the same time as you. Check out thread 61584.

Transmissions are getting very rare. Fixing maybe the only way to go.

Thanks for the replies! I was hoping that I could avoid the rebuild but as studebaker is saying it may be the only way to go and i am considering it now that i have access to a hydraulic press. I have already spend the time rebuilding the engine so might as well make sure i get the car running correctly. Glad to be doing this at the same time as helloish, as his thread has already been very useful.

That does not look like a stock engine. What is it?

So it is the stock b3, but the previous owner had spray painted a majority of the external components which does make it look different. most of the internals looked pretty good as well, the crank, pistons, etc....looks like it had been rebuilt at another point of time.
