1993 vs 1988

I'm making this post because I want to hear other peoples' opinions on this...

I've noticed that the 93 Festiva GL Auto has had more problems than the 88 LX 5 Speed, and that car is older, with lots more miles and it also hasn't been in the best of care. Yet somehow, the 88 feels more like an old Toyota whereas the 93 seems to feel nothing but cheap. Even the rear interior panels of the 93 GL are starting to crystallize and turn to dust yet the 88's rear panels look almost brand new and both cars have spent a life in the sun.

Carbed cars where built with better interiors in my opinion, as for the rest there about the same around here the the 88-89 cars rust out on the underside worse there the 90-93 and in different spots .

Bought my 88 4 speed in '97 with 175 K on the odometer and had to sell in 2011 with over 275- ran like a rick and very few problems ever. Best car ever!

I prefer the 88/89 cars over the newer ones. Interior is better, manual belts are better, the headliner is nicer, the orange gauges fit the 80's styling better, and they run great until something with the ridiculously over-complicated carburetor messes up. An Escort carb swap is fairly simple and makes them run better than stock. I have a '88 L with LX interior swap, a '89 L, and a 90 L Plus and I like the 88/89 cars better.

I agree with #4 88 / 89 better quality more options. But 90 to 93 fi will never leave you on the side of the road if properly maintined.
