  • Red on the road

Well finally got my red 1990 on the road today. Rebuilt the tranny( input and differential bearings and seals) and put in a new clutch set. Drove it almost 100 miles today without a hitch. I think its going to be a good one. It turned over 116,000 today. Drives nice, no issues what so ever. I don't think it needs anything else at the moment. Rear brake pads will probably need replaced soon but that's no biggie. Ive got about $600 in it now. I'm very pleased with the progress so far. I now have a daily driver so I can keep the others parked this winter. The full story is at the last link in my signature if your interested

I had a mechanic friend help me with the tranny. I wouldnt have tackled it alone. We searched for a used tranny with little luck in my price range and finally decided to try and rebuilt it. The bearings were the only problem, there was little visable wear to the rest of the tranny. We did have some problems finding the bearings and got a wrong part once and had to reorder. I think its going to be fine. Shifts perfect. Im going to drive it for the next month or so to see how it holds up before making any other major improvements. Im 95% confident at this stage.
