poormans alternator tester

does anyone know how to make an alternator tester so you can test an alternator off the car? like the ones at autozone ect.

get a motor that turns at a couple thousand rpms, attatch old water pump pulley to it, and then make a bracket to hold it and the alternator and run a belt around them with a tensioner... thats the only way I know how to do it...

why not take to autozone? It's free.

autozone near here got on a customer for bringing in too many alternators to test like the guy was buying alternators from a junkyard and using them to test them.

well i bought on and got one free at the junkyard so i have to test both.

that they shouldnt have a problem with, just tell them that you bought one and they gave u another and you want to make sure there good. they shouldnt have a problem with it unless you do it like every day

:idea: or, if they are that concerned about testing multiple ones, take one to AZ and one to Advance... and if you have anymore goto NAPA and O'Reilly's next

Autozone & Alternator Testing

does anyone know how to make an alternator tester so you can test an alternator off the car? like the ones at autozone ect.

Autozone can not fully test alternators out of the car. They can not fully load out at the proper speed.

Their may find a failure, which makes testing it by them, very useful. Just because their test says it passes, does not mean it is not bad.
