  • 24 Hours of Lemons

A friend and I have decided to start a team for the 24 Hours of Lemons race. If you haven't heard of it, it's a 24 hour race, with $500 cars. The whole thing is a big gag, and a good time is had by all. The race is in the first week of July, at Altamont in CA.

Because racing isn't just for rich idiots... it's for all idiots.

I haven't been to one, but from reading about it I've decided it is something I must do. The event organizers do everything they can to keep seriousness out of it. Penalties for driving like a jerk can include welding a spiked bar to the radiator, so any collision and it gets punctured. Another was welding a giant pair of training wheels to the car.

Currently our team is just the two of us. We need a minimum of 4 drivers, max of 6. After registration fees, the car, and all the saftey equipment, cost per person should be around $500. If anyone wants in, let me know. We are based in western WA, but there's no reason we couldn't meet up at the event.

We have a lead on a $100 CRX that needs a waterpump. If that falls through I think I can do an aspire/B6 swapped festiva beater for $500.

That looks like a lot of fun !!
They have something similar to that here , but it is on dirt , I can't remember what it is called , (yellow jacket/Bee ) something ??
Take a FWD beater , knock out the windows and put a cage in it , with a harness.

We are considering keeping the car to use as a hornet car after this. That all depends on how beat up it gets.

I know there are some people who have done wheel to wheel racing on this board. Any ideas on what parts of a festiva would need beefing up? I'm thinking a bar to brace the control arm mounts, some beefier brackets for the swaybar, and some reinforcement on the top of the shock towers. We would also be welding a bar infront of the radiator, for bracing and protection.

the trailing arm can apparently bend pretty easily, cause when I got my aspire swap the car looked like it had been in a fender bender, but not too bad... but once I got the rear arm on, it was bent too bad to even use, so you might wanna look into beefing it a bit.
              No festiva for me ATM...
