  • thought this was kinda weird...

I've just replaced the heater core in the silver car, and since I have the whole dash taken apart I thought I'd go ahead and play around with the tach I took from an '87 RX-7 a while back in anticipation of building my custom tach cluster. I ended up using a protege tach and never even tested the rx-7 tach to see if it would work in a piston car. I plugged it up to the correct wires on the cluster plugs, and from what I can tell reads it reads correctly, cause I'm showing idle as being just about at 1000RPM and the fuel cutout kicks in at around 6200... anyone know why a tach from a car with a wankel works on a car with a 4 banger? I'm not complaining, cause it means I didn't waste the $8 I payed for the tach, but it just doesn't make sense cause I thought the tach got its signal from the coil, which would mean that a rotary would be throwing waaay different signals than a piston engine, right?
    No festiva for me ATM...

i think it counts the pulses from the coild, a 4 banger would just have slower pulses then a rotary
