Cool, the festiva gets some recognition. Between the wife and I we have put at least 500,000 mile between three of them and they are all still running great. In some ways they are getting better everyday.

I've never heard of a million mile festiva. 500,000 is the most I know of. The last I heard on that cool looking volvo was 1.75 million miles, now it's at like 2.5 million. The former high mileage leader was a beetle and it got totalled. Can you imagine the frustration there?

My goal is to keep my original engine in till 200k. I'm at 160k now, but I don't know if I'm going to make it.

Due to the previous owner (old lady) letting the head gasket get super bad for god only knows how long has really hurt that engine.

Even with several thorough auto-rx cleanins, synthetic oil for most of the past 57k miles, FP60 by www.lubecontrol.com the engine is starting to show it's age. I'm burning about 20 oz of oil every 1000 miles. The consumption just keeps getting worse as time goes on. =(

My crown vic which was beat on my the Iowa State Patrol for 127k miles and now has been beat on by me for another 22k miles only burns a quart every 2500 miles after auto-rx. It has 4 more cylinders to burn it in too.

I curse that old lady for not taking care of my baby before I bought it!

Nowadays engines outlast the rest of the car. Transmissions, bodies, suspension is what ends up making the car not worth fixing. That's why police departments sell the vics near 100k miles. Not because of the engine, but because they don't want to start replacing tie rod ends, ball joints, pitman arms, shocks, struts, etc.
