1988 FORD FESTIVA Recall ID from NHTSA: 95V103011
    Auto Recall Date: 19950627
    Vehicle Component: SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY
    Estimated Vehicles Affected: 265000
    1988 FORD FESTIVA Defect Summary:
THE FRONT SAFETY BELT BUCKLE RELEASE BUTTONS CAN BREAK. THESE RED PLASTIC RELEASE BUTTONS ARE MARKED "PRESS." IF A BUTTON BREAKS, PIECES CAN FALL INTO THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY CAUSING THE BUCKLE TO OPERATE IMPROPERLY.
    Defect Consequence:
THE SAFETY BELTS WOULD NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION TO AN OCCUPANT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
    Remedy:
OWNERS SHOULD PROMPTLY CHECK THE CONDITION AND OPERATION OF BOTH FRONT SAFETY BELT BUCKLES AND CAREFULLY INSPECT THE RED RELEASE BUTTON FOR ANY BREAKS OR CRACKS. THEY SHOULD ENSURE THAT BOTH BUCKLES ARE OPERATING PROPERLY BY INSERTING EACH LATCH PLATE INTO ITS BUCKLE, TUGGING ON THE BELT TO MAKE SURE THAT LATCH IS SECURELY LOCKED, AND THEN PRESSING THE RELEASE BUTTON. THE LATCH PLATE SHOULD POP OUT OF THE BUCKLE WHEN THE BUTTON IS PRESSED. IF EITHER RELEASE BUTTON SHOWS A SIGN OF BREAKING OR CRACKING OR IF EITHER BUCKLE FAILS TO OPERATE PROPERLY, OWNERS SHOULD PROMPTLY CONTACT THEIR AUTHORIZED DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE BUCKLE REPLACED OR REPAIRED, FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER IS DEVELOPING A REMEDY DESIGNED TO PREVENT FAILURE OF THE BUTTONS THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY BROKEN.

You have to admit for 6 years of production , that is a very small amount of recalls , and it is really nothing too much to speak of .
I tried to break them down by the year.

Looks like most of the trouble was in the packing area at Moog Industries other then the seat belt issues. Probably one guy having a bad day on the Moog Industries assembly line.

When I first bought mine. 1991, I looked at consumer reports about the festiva. The first couple of years 88,89 had some issues with brakes, exhaust, interior trim, and a couple of other things I cant remember. By 1990-93 they were getting the 4 1/2 -5 star rating on dependability and owner satifaction. At that time they were on top of the list for that price range with civics and corollas and saturns I believe. It seems like Ive got a 1993 consumer reports around here somewhere. Ill look.

that's cool, mainly only the lower control arms, and the front release button for the seat belt (which if that's for the auto. seat belts i don't have that  )

for how old these cars are getting, that really good

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I got this from fordtechservice.com they had all of the stuff packrat posted too except they didn't have anything listed for 92 and 93 model years
        To:
        All Dealers

        Subject:
Emissions Recall 91E02 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Replacement on Certain 1988 and 1989-Model California Festivas.

        Affected Vehicles

All 1988 and 1989-Model California 1.3L engine and manual transmission equipped Festivas.

        Reasons For Recall

A signal from the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve position sensor may cause the malfunction indicator light to falsely indicate that an emissions control component repair is necessary. The valves may be working properly and emissions may not be affected; however, there is concern that failure to correct this condition will lead owners to ignore malfunction indicator lights.

        Service Action

Festivas returned for service will have exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves replaced. The valve position sensor is part of the EGR valve body

And I think moog just has problems with packing stuff I ordered 2 sway bar to control arms bushings. When I got them one was the correct one but the other was something totally different but it was in the box for the correct part.
