  • Anyone Geocache?

Anyone else here geocache? I just recently picked up a GPSMap 60CSx and I'm getting into the sport (now trying to pickup a Palm so I can keep the records paperless, etc)...

Not sure what I'm talking about? www.geocaching.com will help.

My sister geocaches, I want to get into it, looks like fun, and now that I have a jeep I think it will be more fun ;-)

Maybe we should get the jeeps together this summer and find some hidden gems.

I'd be up for that... How close are you to Williamsport PA? I've got a few good friends up there that Geocache pretty often. I went out and found my first one today.

Its not like that, there is a hole geocaching culture, you should just go google it, and check out the geocaching edicate.

You post the coordinates on the web so people from ANYWHERE can find them... There's no telling when someone will go and try to find it... And you don't have to hide something right away... I'm going to be checking out quite a few before I get bold enough to attempt hiding one.

              More info (FAQ's) here: http://www.geocaching.com/faq/

The caches can be big or little... The one I found today with a mini-one... Enough room for a small trade and to leave your name... Larger ones (generally in an ammo box or similar container) can have bigger trades... The trade is something you take with you, a trinket... You find the cache, take something from the box and leave your piece...

I just wanted to see if anyone else was into the sport.

a few years ago we were hiking up to a waterfall. very busy trail in the summertime and found a ammo box hidden in some rocks . there was a log book inside where people had written about finding it. my friends and i each wrote something then stuck it back. i didn't know how big it was now. pretty cool. i just looked and there's a ton of them here in montana. might be something fun to get into.

Brian - specs? Do you cache?

ajb - You found a cache... It's getting really big! It's a "big techy treasure hunt" game.

No I don't but after reading the site you posted it seems like it could be fun. I would have to get the GPS out to get the specs, it been ahwile since I used it. I looked at my area on the site and there are several listings within a mile!
