grease cleaning tips

ok first of all, greased lighting stuff works wonders lol.

i started out with this since i was replacing the vc gasket anyway


yes its sitting in a utility sink in the laundry room lol.

anyway had an old toothbrush from one of my nephews and a bottle of greased lighting that i bought along time ago.

i wet the vc down and took a sponge to it first to scuff it up a little, then sprayed greased lighting (refered from now on as gl) all over the vc, then took the tooth brush and scrubbed pretty good all over, washing it off and respraying as needed, but took me about an hour to get it decent to where id put it back on lol, if i would of had another tooth brush i would of switched to it to clean it a little better as the one i was using is now a solid black lol. was yellow and green.

anyway after an hour of scrubbing, rinsing, respraying gl, and repeating it now looks like this




just goes to show what a little gl, some elbow grease and some time can do for ya.

Try alumibrite found at truck stops cleans and leaves a little shine.

I started degreasing my new engine the other night and I"m a little disappointed so far. I hit it with a can of very strong degreaser, after having scraped off any bigger chunks that may have gotten in the way. I then took it down to the carwash to power wash it, but it's still nasty. This is going to take some more scraping, and the tiny wire brush that came with my Dremel.

I use diesel fuel as a degreaser. It eats right through the gunk and with a stiff brush it's clean in no time.

Dawn dishsoap with a cheap Harbor Freight Engine sprayer wand that hooks to your compressor (5.00). Much easier to control than the car wash wand and you can get to the tight spots without getting everything wet. You can adjust the amount of liquid/air that comes out so it can be delicate if needed. I'm doing my engine bay today. I will post before and after pics. Taking a break from it now, but been going since 7:30am But I am also repainting a few parts like the VC.

Everyone should save old toothbrushes and any other type of brushes for car cleaning purposes!
