  • My wheel fell off...

completly my fault, i was rushing to get my car on the road so i could go back to school and at the same time packing, and cleaning up the garage... I put my front driver side wheel on with a 3/8" drive tightened it pretty good but because my hubcentric ring is the wrong size it didnt mount up properly. I forgot to torque the wheel down.... About a 1/2 mile down the road my car starts to wobble (not horribly) so i turn around and head home and i was going about 30 and it started wobbling really bad so i go to pull over, the wheel comes off, the rotor lands on the rim of the wheel and i slide into a gaurd rail... I get my jack out, put my wheel (which is fubared... BTW i picked up the shavings from the wheel on the ground) back on, TORQUED IT, started to drive home and my car bounces up and down now (bent wheel or bend hub)... pull into my garage and look at the damage... both front wheels look horrible (other wheel hit the guard rail) bumper got a little scratch on it, and my already distroid fender is now more distroid... unpacked and got a ride to the train station...

    Not a happy camper...

Tip for others... dont forget to torque your wheels down... and dont rush putting your car back together...

ive done that before... it sucks nuts.

actually... ive done it twice. once it was a back wheel and the 2nd time a front.

ill tell you that front driver side wheel when she goes off at 55mph is some fun stuff to try to keep a handle on lol

Well i have always had a shimmy at 55 mph, but it felt a little abnormal so thats why i turned around... did not think it would fall apart so quickly... but it did.

Hope that nothing really serious happened (hope the wheel is just out of balance and thats what it was driving weird), but i won't know for a over a month when im back home... I don't think ill be able to make it to ohiostiva cause im not even planning on going home before the end of school...

I allways put sumthing big behind the car so I cant leave till i tq them down. Learned this when I worked at sears, and seen alot other shops put tq cones behind the car. But that sucks, but a reason to get a nice set of rims

i was doing some break work or something and had to run to the store to grab some bolts... a mile or so down the road i thought to myself "did i tighten those wheel bolts??"... pulled over ASAP, and sure enough i had just screw'd them in w/ my fingers... tightened them up and kept going to the store.

sux man... specially since you can't make it to OHStiva and you may need new wheels

Guess that means I don't have to finish my Turbo setup till the michigan meet then hu. Good news, because I am struggling with it.
