  • phew thought i broke somthing major

    well today i went to go get gas in the aspire. missed the turn on the highway and took a side road, well one pothole was huge, but i slowed to a crawl and got thro it, then antoher one did the same thing, but right as i pull out of it i here this THUNK then as the wheels moving i hear thunk thunk THUNNNKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK and stopped. well i pulled my wheel off thinking i bent an axle or somthin and found the brake pad pin got in the steelies lol. heres a pic of the pin


    but when i seen that i was the happiest kid in the world because it wasnt anything else. man i feel better right now

      and is it just me or is the top pin the only one with a spring on it. the bottom pins on both sides are just free floating lol

        Yeah you have to turn the pin after putting the clip in so that it seats right, or it may pop out and result in the above.

          On my festers there is a drilled hole in each pin for a wire clip to hold both upper and lower brake pins in position.

          Because they're made of cheap steel they corrode quickly, was thinking of having Stainless ones made! As they don't have a load on them, they don't need to be high tensile steel. Plus they'll look better too!

            can anyone provide me a picture of what one of these things that go thro the holes look like, i may be able to make somthin. maybe a midget cotter pin or somthin lol.

              It's just you.. lol.. What John said is correct, both pins have holes and the clip has hooks on each end.

                  Some of these pins do look a bit like cotter pins. Rockauto has them pictured when you look up their Aspire brake hardware kits.

                  I prefer the kind DJ pictured, since it seems to fit and stay better. However, I can't seem to find them. Maybe I'll ask to see the hardware kits at various stores. Anyone know of a company that provides them?

                    I got a new set as a kit from Autozone for my fester.
                    I would expect they should have kits for the newer aspire setup you have!
