  • Judgement call

I found a '93L that had been in a collision with a deer. I offered the lady $50 for it, and it's now mine.

The hood, lights, windshield, radiator, thermostat housing, a fender, the hood hinges and that flimsy bar that runs across the front of the engine bay are toast. Fortunately I only need to get a fender and hood from the junkyard

It runs, although somewhat rough, and drives, the body's in good shape, and it has the cleanest interior I've ever seen in a Festiva. Plus it's been well maintained and has only 130,000 on it.

So here's my problem: Do I try and repair the car or part it out?

Here's some pictures the lady took. The major damage is on the driver's side; that metal bar thing is twisted and crumpled although you can't see it in the pictures:

This is pretty much a judgement call on your part. Do you want another car or would you rather save yourself the work and make some money off it?

Oh no... you have to rebuild it, no parting out around here.

Ok guys, I'll spare the Festiva. I know someone who needs one and has a birthday this month....

I've never done bodywork before so I'm kind of apprehensive about working on that bar thingy. I'll start a thread in the repair forum once I find out how to get this car 40 miles to my house...

              Regards,

Unbolt all of the damage. And then see if the core support needs replacing. At that point if you can fix it then fix it. If not then part it out.

Got it home about a half hour ago.

Kyle and I went to pick the car up this afternoon. We replaced the radiator, the hood, and a few other things, and drove it 40 miles back to my place.

The car ran fine despite some misfiring, a small coolant leak, and the smashed windshield.

I'm glad there were no cops on the road because I would have got a fat ticket if I was pulled over...

I think it's a keeper. I've never had a Festiva like this one. It was so quiet, nothing rattled at 70 mph, it changed gears smoothly, and drove like a dream....
