  • I think im going to cry!!!! sad day

so today i took the festiva out for a quick drive going down the neighborhood and the hood flew up on the festiva!! thankfully the fiberglass hood seems ok ( i didnt look at the hinge aera) the metal hinges tore the cowl aera up. is the cowl aera able to be unbolted or is it wleded to the fire wall? i dont want to take it apart now because it looks like its going to rain. im hopeing i can just replace that cowl has anyone ever replaced a cowl?? the puece by the wipers. im going to cry nothing ever goes right for the festiva!

Also I think you have to remove the windshield to replace it.

That sucks. The cowl is welded on and is a pain to change. I had a festiva with the hinge cowl slice as you do. Probably easier to repair the damage than replace the cowl.

I was told "everybody forgets to latch the hood at some time". It seems all too common for the glass hoods. Sorry to hear about that.

I used the pins that stay attached to the mount (Roger suggested this) so they are always on the hood and you can see them from the drivers seaat if they are unlatched.

do you all just use the pins with the fiberglass hoods then? id probably have the luck hot wheels had. i guess i wouldnt want to trust just that. mextiva had his fly up too, wonder how common a problem that is.

                    yeah thats true

Oops! I forgot to do mine TWICE!

I know that on mine, the hinges actually BENT... So in addition to having the cowl problem, we needed to replace the hinges too.

At any rate... Just tap the "ripped" cowl down, find a friend to weld it and fill it in to make it smooth. If you forget again, you'll be better off the 2nd time around. And as said... Roger states that "everyone forgets at least once"...
