I got my second Festiva this week, an '89 L with 133k. Horrifyingly enough, it didn't have an air filter on it. I'm not overly worried about this however, because the engine runs strong, and does not burn oil, I'll change the oil about every 2000 miles for a while and maybe use some manner of intake cleaner just to be safe.
I quickly found out why it didn't have an air filter on it though. I'm sure many of you are aware already:
NO ONE MAKES AIR FILTERS FOR CARBURETTED FESTIVAS ANYMORE!
I went to five auto parts places looking for one but STP had stopped making them near as I can tell, and Fram and Pennzoil don't even have part numbers listed for the carb'd Festiva. Finally the parts counter at a local Ford dealer was able to order THE LAST ONE IN THE WAREHOUSE for me for $11. That took car of the problem for the present, then I saw Festiva Motorsport had them for $7 so I thought I'd order a couple of spares from them so I wouldn't be SOL the next time I needed an air filter. I put off ordering them, though, and I'm glad I did. I was at an Advance Auto a couple towns over on my lunch hour buying a cabin air filter for my Taurus, when just out of curiosity they had the filter for my Festiva.
They did. I got a Purolator filter, which I guess Auto Zone, O'Reilly and Napa don't carry. It ran me all of 5 bucks. So now I'm set for air filters for the next 60k miles or so. If at that point I can't find a filter, I'll have an excuse for a B6 swap.
