  • Oh so tired...

It's been a very long week, and I topped it off with a complete suspension swap in the Festy! I replaced all 4 struts, lower control arms, strut mounts, tie rod ends....pretty much everything. The day ended with a parking lot alignment job. (all it takes is a good measuring tape, and a wrench)

The only hitch for the day was desperately driving around town trying to find replacement bolts for the lower shock mounts on the rear end. I drove around for 2 hours, and no one happened to have that size of metric bolt in stock at the moment. I even tried raiding the bolt bins at work, but even Porsche didn't have any fine thread, 10 x 1.25 metric bolts on hand. Weird.

Got it done anyway using a little imagination.

The car handles like a dream now, although I do miss the incredibly cushy ride created by 4 totally bagged out shocks.

wana know what drives me insane about the rear suspension? The fact that the nut is not welded on!!!! that was such a pain when i was doing my rear suspension..

The nut on your trailing arms isn't welded on? Mine was. Weird.

About those shocks: there was no resistance at all in compressing them, and the rears didn't spring back, at all. Not even a little.

Next, heater core, head gasket, valve seals, tuning, and in two weeks, a long drive to a 3 day car show.

I know you said complete....but did you do the springs too? I have the struts but I have to get springs because mine seem to be sagging in the rear. But if the struts alone took care of it I may do it sooner.

Oh yeah, springs. I guess I didn't replace everything. Now I think about it, I didn't do the main pivot bushings on the trailing arms either.

            I'm such a liar!

Wish I could have done them, but cash wouldn't allow at the moment.
