what ratio to water would you use to degrease an engine?

  • #2
Are you going to dump it on?

I used just the el-cheapo spray "gunk remover" from WalMart (like $.97 a can)... Drive around to warm the engine up, spray it on and let it cook for a few minutes, drive it around to local car wash (open windows... those fumes are probably deadly) and then pop the hood and hose it down.

I did this to my 2nd Festiva where the engine bay was really bad... It came out looking, almost like new!

I cracked something doing that once. The engine was warm and I sprayed it off with water and I heard a metallic pop and after that the car didn't run right. Didn't matter though it was a farm vehicle and we sold it to a junkyard.

Might be careful doing that to a daily driver though.

Take it back to the back porch, join the 3 string revolution.

A lot of things work , it just takes a little more agitating with some .

I have used Simple Green , it is supposed to be more environmental friendly ,

I use it straight , spray it on , let it soak , spray some more and use a small brush to scrub a bit and rinse , it may need a 2nd application

It didn't work very good for me in the past (years ago ) but maybe they've put some hazardous chemicals in it so it works better now.
