  • newbie question - window handle

    High guys...

I bought a Festiva which has a different drivers side door and thus a different lock. I have the old door and am going to try to take the lock off the old door and place it in the new door so I can actually lock the ol Festiva!

I tried taking the door panel off today and could not get the window handle off. I didn't want to pull on it too hard because I didn't want it to break.

Also is there any way I can take off the door hande other than the one screw? I found it tough to get the panel off without ripping the door panel in the process.

    Thanks in advance!

There is a "U" shaped clip that holds the handle on. You can push the door panel in a bit and use a thin screwdriver and remove the clip. You can either remove the clip completely or if you push on the clip it will release the handle. Once you remove it you'll see how it works.

the pro method is to use a rag...slide it into the crack at the base of the crank and push up and pull out. the clip will pop out

My Haynes repair manual actually recommends using a washcloth to release the clip. And Jo is right, those damn things like to go flying off in all directions.

Messing with my door panels, yet more pics I need to take, and had one of the little bastards pop off into grass that has needed to be cut for about a month.

They make a tool to remove those clips. It works really slick. I picked it up for a dollar on clearance.
