  • question about fan and rpms

    tell me if this is normal, when i turn on the blower fan on dash, positions 2 and 3 raises the rpms,,i know this is supposed to happen when u turn on the ac, but this is just turning on the fan only,,,,is this normal? :?:
    previous cars to fix up;
    86 300ZX
    85 RX7 GSL
    88 Corolla FX
    89 Festiva LX 2bbl 5 speed

    It never happened on any of my festivi ( plural for festiva).

      my 1988 has always done it . also does it when the headlights, park lights or even the cig lighter is used. think it does it to prevent the motor from idleling to low when a load is put on the alternator and charging system. have had 3 carburated festivas and all them have done it.

        donna - is your car carbuated? maybe that's the difference, cause the 2 EFI's i've driven haven't done it

            thanks worfdog, i kinda thought that myself but wanted to make sure since my a/c clutch wont engage and thought maybe i had a short causing it,,,,,

              What rpm's are you referring to, the fan or the engine?
              The engine is supposed to speed up when you turn on the headlights.
              My '89 does.
              The fan is supposed to speed up when you turn the knob but I don't know if that happens when there is an air conditioner as I don't have one.
              Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.
