    Radio bulb

Anybody have an answer to this old question? Right number and source?
I wonder if a 12 v Christmas bulb would work. Same kind of push socket and about the same size. I don't have any here or I would try it. BTW, the bulb number isn't in the regular shop manual radio section.

    Thanks.

Are you even able to replace the bulb in the radio display, mine is weak and it would be nice to be able to see it. I remeber trying to pull the display off my radio on my '89 and it seemed to be soldered on so I didn't try to pull it off for the fear of breaking something.

Don't know about the festiva radio, but I did have an 87 Aerostar that this happened on. The dealer was able to get me the bulb number and it was a very easy replacement once you get inside the radio. It's Sunday or I'd do the legwork for ya, I'll check tomorrow and post it

OEM radio 1990. Remove the trim frame CAREFULLY. I managed to break the upper clips on mine - AGAIN! $@#%! After getting the two screws loose that hold in the radio, pull the radio out a couple inches. Near the front of the radio, there is a small screw that hold the face plate in place - one each side. Remove the knobs by pulling straight out then remove the two small screws. The face plate come off. You'll see the bulb. I slipped a short piece of thin plastic tubing over the bulb then gently pulled it straight out with needle nose pliers. Don't squeeze too hard on the pliers. Not sure if all radios are the same. Ford may have used different vendors thru the years.

The bulb doesn't have a conventional base but just thin wires bent back that make the contacts similar to those found in holiday light strings

The bulb back lights the display - without it no can see numbers.

Good time to scrub that funky radio faceplate too..

Once again the Internet is my friend. I haven't looked at one to compare to the old one but Advance Auto has them listed. Part number 37.

Will find out for sure Monday morning.

OK close this one. The bulb is a Sylvania #24 available at Advance Auto. Current bubble pack price was $3.99 for two.

I've replaced radio bulbs a couple of times. Not that involved, and the bulbs are available at your local McParts store.

I brought my old one along for comparison. Be careful when swapping them out, it's really easy to break the plastic reflector the bulb attaches to.
