  • Replacing O2 sensor

Does anyone have a good way of doing this? My original O2 sensor will not budge, and one problem of that--it's practically impossible to reach with a wrench, socket, or ..well, anything besides a mangled hand!

Also, the three bolts bolting the exhaust manifold to the downpipe-- is there any type of gasket in between there? If I manage to take the 3 bolts out (those are rusted and hard to get to too) so I can take out my exhaust system to work on it, will I need to put a gasket or anything in between there?

I took a box wrench and sawed it off to about 3 or 4 inches long I can get it on from the bottom. over the wire the connector will go through with a little pushing and wiggling then once it is secure on the sensor I got it off with a pipe over the short handle.
do this carefully so as not to round off the nut. it helps to put high quality penatrant "PB Blaster" "wd80" "Kroil" (not WD40) penatrating oil on it beforehand and allow it to soak.
I think there is a special wrench out there too. obviously those may work better. I have seen the threads stripped so use the penatrating oil.
    it runs so sweet

Watch out with the 3 bolts. If they are too rusted they will break. I had 2 of the 3 break off on me when removing the exhaust downpipe.

i sprayed my 02 with pb blaster, went and rented the tool from Auto Zone (get refund when returned), unless u have a 13/16 deep socket, then sprayed it again and let sit about 1/2 hour, and it came off...had to use a breaker bar (2 foot long pipe over ratchet handel)

^^ last year i bought a set of spark plug sockets that are about 4" long from walmart. i'm pretty sure one of them is 13/16" and if i remember corectly they were only around $5 for 3 of them.

            Mattswabb is correct!
Also if you get them off replace them with stainless steel with a stainless steel washer, because the OEM bolts were flared. Also don't for get the anti-seize. In case you ever have to take the down pipe off again.

Yes, there is a gasket between the manifold and the down pipe. $3 at any McParts place.

Nice, got the O2 sensor out (finally!), as well as the 3 bolts. Thanks guys!
