89 Festiva, I've recharged the A/C twice now and I've noticed there appears to be a leak in a steel line going into a coupling at the firewall on the passenger side. Anyone know what the setup is for this or is it just an O ring that needs replacing?

If the leak is right at the coupling, then a new O ring should do the trick. Rockauto.com has complete Oring sets for AC under $10. If it is the line itself, then you may need a repair or replacement. Are you recharging with R12 or are you converting over to R134 or an equivalent?1991 L 408,000 miles+ w/NEW B3 longblock!!

Sounds like you are doing it right. I hope that it is an easy fix and that you will be running cool once again. I will soon be pulling the AC from my newly acquired parts car to install on my driver. It looks to be a dealer installed assembly so I am hoping that the O ring kit will work for my application.1991 L 408,000 miles+ w/NEW B3 longblock!!

As I understand it all air conditioning systems were dealer installed. It never came from the factory with A/C.
I'm not real well versed in air but an air tech once told me the molocules in 134 are smaller than in 12 and cause considerable leaks.
Good luck with your conversion.

There were both factory installed systems and dealer installed systems. They used different compressors "Factory Air" used a Nippondenso 10P13A Compressor while the "Dealer Installed Air" used a Sanden/Sankyo SD709 or SD 708 Compressor also called a '6 Groove'.
As far as leaks go, there are some system sealers available for A/C systems. Duracool claims to have products compatible will all refrigerants. Here is a link to their site:
