  • Weird intermitent problem... weird.

Hey all, I have a 90 L+ EFI 5 SPD with 160,000 mi on the clock, bought it about 4k ago, after purchase the thing would bog and fall on its face above 3500 RPM. Since then I cleaned her out with sea foam, changed the oil & filter, air filter, cap & rotor, wires and plugs.

Now heres the weird part, this has happened twice in the past 3 days, I went to get it from the parking lot in the morning and it started and idle like normal, but would bog and die when i tried to give it gas, this went on for the next 5 min, then i turned it off and restarted it and it ran fine. then the same thing happened after pulling into a drive way today, it bogged out and i couldnt pull all the way up the driveway. I turned it off and restarted, everything reved fine????

Has anyone run into this with their festy?

fuel filter sure won't hurt. Sounds like a problem a lot of people are having, check out my "B6 stutter" thread, expecially the second 2 pages. kzbill has been having a problem just like yours, and has a list of things he tried. Packrat had a similar problem and fixed it by checking his TPS... read that thread to get some more ideas!

before you go spending goobs of $$, try cleaning EVERY ground connection you can find. the ECM relies on clean grounds to opperate properly. also check your Referance voltages at your MAF and TPS (should be at or near 5V)

B6 is the motor out of a 323. It's the same basic motor as our festiva but it's 1.6. A popular and the easiest swap into our cars.

Had a similar problem on my 89 FI and fixed it by replacing the fuel sock in the gas tank. It had plugged with rust and would at times run ok but others its would barely go 10 mph.
