  • Rear Hatchback Noise

Just wondering how many of you experience loud rattling from the rear hatchback and if you know of any way to quite it down. The hatch seal is in good shape and the rubber bumpers are also in good shape and in place. Just don't know why it rattles so much and I can't see any way to adjust the hatchback to tighten it up against the seal or bumpers any more.

are you sure it's the hatch itself rattling? if so check the latch make sure it's tight and the bolts at the top of the hatch

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

My '92 used to do that too. You just had to really slam the hatch to get it shut all the way. The doors have been the same way on both of my Festivas, come to think of it.

Yeah it's the hatch, I can shake the hatch when it is closed as if it does not want to shut all the way and I have tried closing it harder to no avail so I just wasn't sure if there was any type of adjustment that could be made.

Both of mine do that as well if I don't shut them hard enough. I also lock it before I shut it as well. I don't use the key. I just push up on the latch arm and that is the lock position. Works every time.

You can stop this by adjusting the latch.

Raise the hatch. Loosen the two bolts holding the latch onto the hatch. Push up while re tightening. The hatch rattles because the latch isn't holding it tight. You can only move it a little but it will stop the rattle. You can also tinker with the latch part inside the jamb if you need to. Try a couple of different adjustment if the first one doesn't work. It has always worked for me.

adjjust the latch and try keeping the hatch locked . . . puts tention on the rods and keeps the latch firmly shut . . . if still no slution check your High mount stop lamp(third brake light) for looseness . . . still no go pull the door card out and look for anything loose

Also lube your latch real good if you take the inside trim off and use something on your rubber hatch seal to keep it pliable.
