What year is my Festiva?

Thought it was an 89 LX ( Mfg # 03-30-89 )...fuel injected autmatic...it died three weeks ago and my mechanic says I need a new distributor. Have a 92 5-speed in the driveway so take its distributor out to put in the 89 and not the same! Onto the internet and in a far-off place find an 89 distributor...when it arrives its the same as the 92!! Parts guy says the car it came off has a march 89 mfg #... ... ...what gives here?

89 fuel injected cars take a distributor for a 89 fuel injected car only. The later ones 90 and up have a different part.
