  • Found an engine for $200. Worth it?

    The engine for sale:

    My engine:

The engine has 96000km (60000 miles) on it, it's from an automatic, for $200. It looks much cleaner than mine, I also have 174000km (109000 miles) on mine and it, well, runs, but isn't perfect.

No, I'm not considering a b6 swap or anything in the future, it's just a daily driver so I'll keep it stock. The only thing I WOULD swap is my tranny, which sucks, but that's out of this thread...

Anybody think it's worth it or I should just wait until my engine dies first (which could also not be in any near future).

200 dollars for a 60k motor is a good deal as long as it runs fine, and doesn't have a blown head gasket. But your current engine should be good for another 150k. Might not be bad to have a spare though.

150k? Don't you find that slightly exaggerated? Because I suppose you're talking about the engine taking that without a rebuild, else of course it can go forever...

Yea well that's impossible in Quebec! For 200-250 you won't get more than a rust-hole Festiva! I got mine for US$625...

I have a cousin that is on her 2nd Festiva. Both have over 350,000 miles without rebuilds.

festivas are known for going to and passed 250k miles. I have had 2 I bought when they both where at 250k about, engines and tranny where fine but shells where shot.

300,000 is common. I saw two last november with 378,000 and 389,000. I know of 2 with 500,000.

Hm. Well, just for a spare, I think I'll guilt the seller on the fact the engine's missing a lot of accessories and has 90k on it (hey! that's not new, man! what if breaks, like, tomorrow?!) to sell it for $100. Then I'll get it. Hehe.

True question is do you think its worth it? somethings only worth as much money as someones willing to pay no matter what its appraised value is.

That's deep... I think it may be worth $200 in the future, it's definetly not worth $200 for now but for $100 it's worth buying it now as it may be worth it for even $200 in the future but won't be available.

Lean on him for $100, but with those miles I'd pay $200 if I needed a stock engine.
