  • Airbox doesn't come off?!

I was changing my right light recently and thought I'd check on my air filter at the same time. So the airbox has 4 screws on the sides; 2 came off easily and the other 2, closer to the headlight assembly, don't turn at all (and I've tried hard believe me)?

Now, it's either something stupid, or they're completely stuck so I'll have to take the whole airbox out and if I'll have to do that, I was considering putting a CAI in, which will be my next question if the screws don't come out...

Any ideas on how to get them loose?

A bigger screwdriver maybe? It's been a long time since I've looked at a stock Festiva intake setup... I've always tossed mine and put a cone filter on instead. If that doesn't work, I've put a pair of plyers around the handle of a screwdriver before so that have some extra leverage to turn with...

If the bolts are rusted and stuck... You may want to squirt some PB Blaster on them... It'll help eat the rust away and lubricates at the same time (10x better than WD40)!

FWIW... You won't find any pre-made CAI... You'll either need to fabricate one out of several other kits or make your own with tubes and pipes... Also, for it to be a CAI, it should probably drop into the fender/wheel well where it'll actually be fed with cold air...

I have the perfect size screw head which I used with a ratchet key while pushing on it like crazy after using WD40 and waiting for an hour. I'll try PB Blaster one day, have none for now. It turns but very very slightly so the head's just getting damaged and nothing's getting done kind of... Which is why I'm desperate lol.

Exactly that was my question for CAI... What do you normally make your own tubes and pipes from? I never made anything custom so this will be a slight challenge, but I do have access to "various machinery", so the ways to do it are there.

I've never made a full CAI... I've also used some sort of stock tubing from others cars to fit... With my B6 swap, I used a Protege tube to mate to the MAF and then just had a cone filter on the other end... I believe PepBoys and similar stores like that now sell a pipe kit that you can get which have a few different pieces of tubes that you can "make" work...

I know that DJ used a long piece of metal tube (not sure what it was for... might have been an exhaust pipe or something similar to that ) and he just had it bent to fit. His pics are around if you search a bit.

And trust me... My other hobby is Jeeping, where EVERYTHING tends to rust up... PB Blaster has been a life saver with my Jeep time and time again...

Are you using a screwdriver or a socket? last time i checked you can put a 10 or 12mm on the screws with a couple extensions

I'll try different places to find a long aluminum pipe and bend it to fit then... What about the bracket and that plastic box on the top of the air box with wires going into it? ...What is it and where does it go with the CAI?...

Have you tried a breaker bar on the socket?

Here's my setup with the BP:

I guess I don't have a better shot than that... The "box" is the MAF and that needs to be connected. Mine goes throttle body, intake tubes, MAF, adapter plate*, cone filter. - You will need to pickup the adapter plate for this to work... I believe they can be had at most autoparts stores... I'm not 100% sure where mine originally came from.

Well, I'll do my best to find the right tubing and bend it the right way. I do believe adapters ARE available anywhere, so that's not a problem. Also, there're 2 small hoses connected to the main one, what are they are how badly are they needed?

BTW, why's there a small air filter on your head...?

Have you tried a breaker bar on the socket?
If he uses a breaker bar they are going to snap!
                    Guaranteed!
Don't ask and I wont have to "entertain" you with how I know!
Hit them with PB Blaster let sit, do this a couple of times.
Then use a 3/8" ratchet with extension and appropriate 10/12mm socket.
But if it doesn't budge hit with more PB Blaster and wait, just do not snap them!
                    Just creates more work!
