  • tranny fluid dosent register on spedo gear

Ok... the flange was broken off by spedo gear and i could never get it out so i never bothered. Today i spent an hour with a pair of vice grips and managed to get it out. The fluid dosent even register on the gear. If you look a few threads down, ive got a knocking noise up front. So is my trans finished?

Change the fluid, and fill it to spec, and see what happens. A little ATF can work wonders sometimes. If not, drive it until there's a catastrophic failure, at least then you'll have some cool pictures to show us.

drain it and see how much comes out and what it looks like, then fill'er back up and see what happens... could be that there just isn't much trany fluid in it. these trany's seem to hold up pretty well even w/o fluid, so it may not be total trash even if its empty, but i wouldn't push it!!!

if i look from the top, i can still see fluid in the trans, its just so low what it isnt hitting the gear.

Do i just put regular ATF in?

Well mine runs flawlessly shifts perfect, just the clutch was toast on the flywheel side from uneven wear.

Besides If you could see the fluid from the speedo hole it has at least 2 quarts in it.....

ok i dropped it last night and this is what it looks like

it definitely has metallic sparkles in it.

yes lots of metal in there, but it looks fairly clean! did it smell burnt at all?

I'd leave the drain plug out and dump a quart through the trany to help flush more of that mental out, and then fill it up again and see how it goes... you may or may not be able to save it now :/

Yea, i did exactly that, i flushed some thru then refilled it. It still knocks.. dosent seem quite as bad but its still knockin. That is still assuming that its the tranny knocking.
